Beautiful Loch Awe, about 20 miles east if Oban is one of the most photographed of Scottish Lochs. On its peaceful western shore, and right on the water, is Achnacarron Boathouse.
In six acres of secluded, south-facing grounds with loch frontage and reached by about a mile of meandering private track, the Boathouse is an architect-designed, expertly refurbished and most comfortable house, quite alone in its stunning Lochside situation with its own private pier, slipway and fishing rights.
There is an abundance of wildlife here, and an even greater variety of birds. The nearby The Taychreggan Hotel on the Lochside offers fine dining and, just a little further, the Ardanaiseig Hotel is one of the most prestigious in the country.
Loch Awe offers fishing and sailing with many walks to be enjoyed in the surrounding mountains. Taynuilt (8m) has small shops, a hotel and a golf course. There are superb beaches at Benderloch, while Oban itself is a bustling port from which you can take all kinds of boat trips.
