The East Neuk of Fife, with its picturesque fishing villages, is one of the most delightful corners of Scotland. One of these villages is Pittenweem, where you will find Anchor House, a traditional house just a few yards from the harbour.
It is a light, bright and airy first floor apartment, attractively furnished, with polished wood floors, open fire and with superb views over the harbour, perfect for exploring the surrounding countryside and coast, yet within easy striking distance of Edinburgh (47m, all facilities).
The village itself is full of character, almost merging with St Monans, which has a superb fish restaurant. Just to the north is Kellie Castle with its wonderful gardens, with famous St Andrews just 11 miles away. There is good walking along the coast; riding and tennis are available and wind surfers, dinghies, canoes and mountain bikes can be hired at Elie (4m). Perth (41m) is the gateway to the Highlands, and day trips to Loch Lomond (90m) and the Trossachs are perfectly feasible.
