The area is a haven for wildlife, with regular sightings of deer and red kites. As the area is situated on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park, nominated Britain’s first Dark Sky Park, a clear night will present amazing opportunities for star gazing.
For the younger generation, Ernespie Farm in Castle Douglas offers both indoor and outdoor play areas along with a café with delicious offerings for all ages. The Cocoa Bean Chocolate Factory at Twynholm which has both indoor & outdoor play areas and offers Chocolate Making workshops; The Wee Pottery and the Dark Sky Planetarium in Kirkcudbright, along with numerous connections to Rabbie Burns, the national baird which can be found around the area are ideal for the days with inclement weather.
