Bay Cottage at Skara Brae
Bay Cottage is a charming, detached cottage set by the gorgeous beach at Bay of Skaill, less than half a mile from the fascinating ancient settlement of Skara Brae.
What was originally a simple croft house has been extended to create a spacious and inviting seaside retreat. Its snug sitting room is warmed by a wood-burning stove, the kitchen is well-equipped for whipping up culinary delights and the bright dining room has seating by the window for admiring the wonderful sea views. The colourful double bedroom and neat twin room share a chic, modern bathroom and outside the pretty grassed gardens extend to several acres.
The delightful sandy beach is only 300 metres away so it is a short stroll across to it. Skara Brae dates back to the late Neolithic period and lay covered by sand for approximately 4,000 years preserving an amazing amount of detail in its eight stone-built dwellings. There is a shop at Quoyloo (1.5m) and a supermarket in Dounby (5m) where the Smithfield Hotel serves excellent meals
