Blackwater Hostel, Glamping & Campsite offers good quality, budget accommodation for those touring the Highlands of Scotland. Based in the scenic village of Kinlochleven, we are surrounded by Mamores making us a popular stopover for those hillwalking, climbing or mountain biking or those completing The West Highland Way as we are located right on the trail. Established since 1999 in a converted factory building when then famous Aluminium Smelter closed in the village, the building now provides a varied range of accommodation for groups both large and small.
Blackwater Hostel first opened its doors back in 1999 and since then it has firmly established itself as one of the best hostels on the West Highland Way. Set in the scenic village of Kinlochleven, the hostel has 10 private ensuite rooms it is surrounded by Mamore mountains and lies on the banks of the River Leven just 7 miles from Glencoe. It is perfectly situated just 200m from the village centre, where there are many local amenties such as: supermaret, post office, 3 pubs - all offering bar meals and tourist attractions such as the Ice Factor – Europe’s largest indoor climbing wall, right on the doorstep. The hostel is a great base for outdoor enthusiasts or for a stopover when walking the West Highland Way. If walking is your thing there are numerous routes leaving from the village – ranging from low level to high level with plenty Munro’s nearby to check off the list and famous walks such as the Buachaille Etive Mor, The Lost Valley, Aonach Eagach Ridge, The Pap of Glencoe all just a short drive away. For those looking for an adrenaline rush there’s Vertical Descents based just around the corner who offer canyoning, white water rafting, kayaking, and Scotland’s first Via Ferrata where you can scale up the side of Grey Mare’s waterfall – Scotland’s third largest waterfall. There’s plenty around to keep you entertained on your trip whether it’s wet or dry! Great base for day trips to many popular places by car such as Ben Nevis, Oban, Loch Ness, Inverness & Isle of Skye.
The hostel has 10 private rooms with en-suite facilities. All our cozy rooms have central heating, double glazing and comfortable bunk beds. FOR YOUR SAFETY AND OUR STAFF, BEDDING OR TOWELS ARE NO LONGER PROVIDED.According to guidelines all duvets must be washed or left for 72 hours after every departure. Unfortunately we do not have the capacity to do this. The mattresses are covered with a Neptune covering which can and will be washed and disinfected after every departure. All areas will be cleaned according to strict government guidelines, then sanitised with our Eco Friendly Disinfectant Fogger which kills 99.9999% of pathogens in 30 seconds, harmless to humans, plants and animals. All our accommodation will be cleaned following strict. government guide lines following this our eco friendly fogger will be used to sanitise the rooms and all other areas.PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR OWN SLEEPING BAG AND TOWELS WITH YOU.
We cater for both small and large groups with room sizes varying from 2, 3, 4 & 8 bedded. Lie back and enjoy the flat screen TV in your room or freshen up after a hard days walking in the adjoining en-suite facilities with plenty hot water on tap and soap, shampoo & shower gel all provided, hairdryer is available on request. For breakfast and dinner, guests can make use of the fully equipped self catering kitchen and unwind in the large communal dining area. There is plenty to keep you entertained in the evenings with free WIFI available in all areas, large flat screen TV. Guests also have the use of two commercial drying rooms to ensure any wet kit is nice and dry for you in the morning. There’s ample free parking out front for all hostel guests or if travelling by bike we do have a secure lock up where these can be stored. The hostel is also dog friendly.
