Ancient Fireballs Ceremony
This ceremony in Stonehaven is one of the most unique Hogmanay festivals in Scotland. At the strike of midnight the High street is lit up as around fifty to sixty local fireball-swingers make their way, swinging their fireballs above their heads, through the town. The idea behind the ceremony is to burn off the bad spirits left from the old year so that the spirits of the New Year can come in clean and fresh.
Each year the ceremony attracts thousands of visitors to help celebrate the New Year.
