Glasgow is an architectural dream: Glasgow was the UKs City of Architecture and Design in 1999 and its architecture is certainly an attraction in itself. Victorian red and honey sandstone, Italianate steeples and medieval spires sit with neo-gothic towers. Not forgetting the Art Nouveau "Glasgow Style" for which the city has become famous no one should miss the work of Glasgow's most celebrated son, architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Walk it yourself with the help of a good guide book or try one the many tours as a taster before venturing back to the many places of special interest.
Glasgow has an amazing portfolio of museums and galleries - many of them free - including the fascinating Burrell Collection, stunning Mackintosh House and cool and contemporary Gallery of Modern Art, some are within a walking from Brough Hall like Coates Observatory and Paisley Museum and Library.
Heritage seekers will enjoy the Kelvingrove (re-opening Summer 2006), Museum of Transport, Museum of Country Life at Kittochside and Clyde Built, which tells the story of Glasgow and River Clyde from tobacco to ship building.
Surrounding the city is some of the best of Scotland's scenery and Brough Hall is ideally located for easy access to explore further, visit Rabbie Burns Country, Arran, Isle of Bute and Cumbrae, Oban amongst the hills of Argyll and Stirling.
