The 3 options are as follows:
1. Browns Hostel - 6 bedroomed hostel with a mix of single, twin, double and family rooms (no bunks or dorms) rated as 4 star
2. Harbourlee House - 4 bedroomed house with large rooms, either family or twin/double (more info here )
3. Harboulee Cottage - 2 bedroomed cottage with a double & twin room (more info here )
** please note the Hostel is graded under VisitScotland's Quality Assurance scheme and is 4 star. The other two properties are not graded.
All properties can be booked on a nightly or weekly basis and the house and cottage are used as hostel accommodation or self catering.
1. Brown's Hostel:
A popular family-run hostel, which has been praised for it's ideal location with all the shops, pubs and restaurants nearby, and for it's cosy kitchen which fronts onto the street. Seating all guests at one sitting, the big table is a great gathering place and many enjoyable times are had.
Facilities include:
- free internet access
- laundry facilities available
- fully equipped kitchen with large fridge, freezer, cooker, hob, microwave, toasters, electric kettles, dishes, cutlery, pots and pans.
- shed is available for safe cycle storage.
2. Harbourlee House:
A renovated 19th century townhouse, centrally situated on the shore side of the small town of Stromness. We are 10 minutes easy walk to the ferry terminals and bus stop.
The house is ideal for divers, college groups or a large family with extended members.
3. Harbourlee Cottage:
This property is ideal for self catering and sits on the shore front with amazing views out across the harbour. You can sit and enjoy the boats pass by as you eat in the living/dining room.

Double or twin ensuite bedrooms from £50 per room nightly
Family ensuite bedrooms from £75 per room nightly

There are many historical sites, high cliffs and wildlife places that can be visited within cycling distance. Also daily tour buses that pick up and drop off at our Ferry terminal. Service buses run every 1-2 hours between Stromness and Kirkwall and there are cars or cycles for hire, making this an ideal base for your stay in Orkney.

The heart of Neolithic Orkney is a 15 min drive from the hostel, heading to the West Mainland where you can visit Skara Brae, Maeshowe, Ring of Brodgar and Standing Stones of Stenness . A further drive of 15 mins will take you to the Brough of Birsay , Broch of Gurness and Earls Palace Birsay.
