Slackbrae, originally a forester’s cottage, launches this autumn for self-catering holidays. It has been renovated using a conservation approach with sustainable materials to achieve a low energy house. Inside, specially-commissioned kitchen and bathroom tiles tell the heritage of the cottage and the Estate throughout the centuries.
Slackbrae has vaulted ceilings, day-long sunlight and stunning views of the fields and woodlands, allowing guests to immerse themselves in nature and reconnect with the land. The gardens have been rejuvenated with a new planting scheme providing a blaze of colour and herbs throughout the year.
The fully-accessible cottage contains two bedrooms and two bathrooms - a master bedroom with en-suite and a double bedroom which converts into a twin room.
Built in the 1700’s Slackbrae was the former gatehouse to the estate and covers 120m². At one time it was owned by the Stirling & Dunfermline Railway. The original train line dating back to 1852 is now a cycle route, providing easy access for day trips to the Wallace Monument.
