Sitting high on the hill above Eddrachillis Bay, Buailard's sitting room overlooks some of the most spectacular and breathtaking wilderness scenery in Europe, as do all the bedrooms. Depending on the weather, the mountains to the north east, including Foinaven (the second highest Corbett), will either reveal themselves all at once and with startling clarity or, one by one, gradually emerge from the cloaking clouds of mist. Guests have been known to while away an entire day watching the unfolding drama.
Comfortably furnished and well equipped - including a collection of books on all things Scottish - Buailard is ideally located for exploring both North West Sutherland (Melvich and Bettyhill to Ullapool) and Wester Ross (Achiltibuie south to Lochcarron). On the coastal routes going north or south, there are attractions and activities too numerous to list, here are just a few:
North: Take a ferry from Kylesku to Glencoul; visit Britian's highest waterfall, Eas Coul Aulin or see the magnificent Clo Mor (900 ft) cliffs at Cape Wrath.
North East: Within a day you can head to Durness for a game of golf, visit Smoo Cave or walk the gorgeous beach at Sandwood.
South: From Achiltibuie ferries run to the Summer Isles - teaming with wildlife; Ullapool's many attractions, including the Ullapool Museum the Lochbroom Leisure Centre; and the magnificent falls at Measach.
If you want to stay closer to home, a short walk to Culkein beach will be filled with countless wild flowers, abundant bird life and, occasionally, seals in the bay. The village of Lochinver, with its shops and services is a 20-minute drive as are the beautiful beaches at Clachtoll, Clashnessie and Achmelvich.
Buailard Croft House and its peaceful surroundings will bring serenity. Come, feast your eyes and feed your souls and then, come back.
