Catching the short Ardgour Ferry (no booking necessary) south of Fort William and arriving at high tide at this beautiful cottage in its unique picture-book setting on Loch Sunart, you may feel that you have arrived on your own private island! Water surrounds its secluded grounds, and may even lap its private access bridge.
If the setting is spectacular, the cottage is scarcely less so. The owners have completely restructured and expanded what was once a homely little dwelling into a superb Highland home. Wonderfully spacious and light, with large windows galore, the large open-plan living space has an open fire and two sets of patio doors. There is also an additional garden room and two sunny decks outside. The four bedrooms are arranged in two separate wings, adding to the convenience and privacy. Underfloor central heating and double glazing ensure cosiness whatever the season.
The three acres of private ground encompass the Allt Eachain burn, two small beaches - handy for launching dinghies and canoes - a south facing sitting area on the rocky point and an enclosed garden.
Salen (5m) has a good pub/restaurant with a snug bar. Acharacle and Strontian (approx 6m) have a general store, a post office and hotel each. Fort William also has a leisure centre, golf course etc. The Ardnamuchan peninsula offers walking, wonderful scenery and beaches and sea-life boat trips. Visits to Mull and Skye are also possible.
