Welcome to Camus House – A Highland Retreat on the Shores of Loch Linnhe
Camus House is a traditional Victorian guest house set in a stunning lochside location with panoramic views across Loch Linnhe towards the majestic mountains of Glencoe, Argyll, and the Ardnamurchan peninsula. Nestled in the peaceful village of Onich, midway between Glencoe and Fort William, it is the perfect base for exploring the breathtaking beauty of the West Highlands. From here, the Isles of Skye and Mull, Ardnamurchan, and even Loch Ness are all within easy reach for memorable day trips.
Built in 1892 on an elevated site overlooking Onich Bay, Camus House – named from the Gaelic for “on the bay” – retains many original 19th-century features including antique pine panelling and a grand carved staircase. The character of the house is enhanced by tasteful modern touches, creating a welcoming and comfortable setting that blends historic charm with contemporary comfort.
The four-bedroom guest house offers hotel-standard accommodation at affordable prices, with a warm, relaxed atmosphere – true Highland hospitality at its best. Our large reception hall provides a cosy space to gather, plan adventures, or simply unwind. In the evening, our conservatory offers a front-row seat to some of the area’s most dramatic sunsets over the Morvern Mountains and the Isle of Mull.
Surrounded by mature gardens, rich with seasonal colour and native shrubs, the grounds of Camus House invite quiet reflection and connection with nature. Wildlife is abundant – from red squirrels in the trees to a variety of birdlife on the loch, including red-breasted Mergansers, Eider Ducks, and even the occasional sighting of porpoises, dolphins, or otters during breakfast.
We offer breakfast hampers served in our beautifully decorated meeting room overlooking the water, ensuring your day begins with inspiring views and maybe a surprise visitor from the natural world.
Whether you're seeking an active outdoor getaway – with walking, climbing, mountain biking, sailing, and more right on the doorstep – or a peaceful escape surrounded by the awe-inspiring landscapes of Loch Linnhe, Glenachulish, and Glencoe, Camus House is a place to relax, explore, and make lasting memories.
