There is so much to do here in the Scottish Borders and the Lothians. Just a few of our favourites are Thirlestane Castle, Abbotsford, Floors Castle, the lovely shops & restaurants of Melrose, Kelso and St Boswells, exploring beautiful gardens, picking berries in the summer, a walk up the Eildons or in the Lammermuir Hills and a day trip to Edinburgh during the Fringe Festival. Carfraemill also makes for a good place to stay if you're embarking on a section of the Southern Upland Way or you're part-way through bikepacking the Capital Trail (just a tiny detour from the route at the end of Day 1). You can also go for a farm walk - we have a farm just a mile behind Carfraemill and can provide maps of easy routes.Events
In the coming months, the area is hosting a number of fantastic events including the Tour de Lauder, the Melrose Sevens, Floors Castle Horse Trials, Vintage "Festival of Motoring" (Thirlestane Castle), the Borders Book Festival, numerous summer rural shows (agricultural / country shows), the famous "common ridings", the Great British Food Festival (at Floors Castle) and lots more.Royal Burgh of Lauder
Our local town, the Royal Burgh of Lauder, is just 4 miles away and is a bit of a gem of a place to spend time. It's most famous for being home to the fairytale-turrets of Thirlestane Castle. Lauder also has coffee shops and delis (try The Flat Cat Gallery and The Spotty Dog) as well as good pubs and restaurants (The Firebrick Brasserie and The Black Bull).
