Oban, known as the Seafood Capital of Scotland, has a wide range of seafood & fish restaurants and an excellent fish shop if you wish to cook your own. A visit to the Seafood Shack on the quayside is a must for those who love their shellfish. The town is otherwise known as the Gateway to the Isles with the Calmac ferry terminal giving access to trips to Mull, Colonsay, Tiree, Lismore and Barra.
The town has an array of independent shops, including the must visit Oban Chocolate Shop, a distillery, a selection of supermarkets, a cinema, golf course, swimming pool and a selection of other land and water-based sports facilities. With its own sandy beach for those looking for a traditional ‘seaside holiday’, numerous historical sites within easy reach including Dun staffage Castle, Inveraray Jail and for the horticulturist’s visits to Inveraray Castle & Gardens and Arduaine Gardens are a must. There really is plenty for all ages to explore.
