The cottage is within easy reach of the Galloway Forest park and is an excellent base for walking, mountain biking, bird watching, wild flower study in this rugged wilderness area of Southern Scotland.
The local towns of Castle Douglas and Ayr are close by offering an array of independent shops, leisure facilties, cineam and opportunites for eating out. The area boasts numerous sites of historic interest such as Threave Castle and Culzean Castle together with National Trust for Scotland properties including Threave Estate in Castle Douglas, Broughton House in Kirkcudbright. The cottage is also on the Robert Burns trail, a circular driving route which runs through Southern Scotland from his birthplace in Alloway, through to Ellisland, his farm in Dumfriesshire.
