The house has been meticulously renovated throughout, the serene Regency exterior belying the striking interior; a seamless fusion of contemporary and antique items. Fabulous life-size bronzes, quirky objets d'art and an impressive selection of original artwork sit alongside original features sensitively restored to preserve the character of the house. The contemporary kitchen is the convivial heart of the house, extensively equipped with all the latest high-tech kitchen wizardry. The drawing room is incredibly light and spacious with three fabulous ceiling height windows and a log fire for winter evenings. A cosy study provides a quiet spot for catching up with a few emails and a second sitting room with log burner provides a comfy spot to read or watch films.
Sleeping up to 12 guests, upstairs the individually-themed bedrooms are light, bright and immaculately presented with sumptuous feather duvets and pillows and crisp Egyptian cotton sheets. On the basement level, you'll find a table tennis table, as well as a boot room, drying room and the former butler's pantry for guests' dogs.
Attractions & Activities
The Oxnam Water flows through the estate providing excellent riverside walks from the doorstep. Children can cycle safely around the grounds and for more extensive cycling and walking there are a number of marked routes around Kelso including the Borders Abbey Way and the popular 64-mile St Cuthbert's Way. For keen riders, there is a riding stables nearby.
For fishing parties, Crailing House is incredibly convenient for the prime Middle Tweed beats around Kelso in addition to reasonably priced fishing on the Teviot close to the house, and fun trout fishing on the Oxnam Water which flows through the estate. Walked up and driven shooting can be arranged nearby. For golf enthusiasts, there are 22 courses within a 30 mile radius ranging from challenging PGA Championship courses, to picturesque links and parkland courses to suit all standards.
Crailing is five miles from the historic town of Jedburgh which offers good local amenities, and seven miles from the bustling and attractive market town of Kelso with its fine range of independent shops, pubs and restaurants. A visit to Floors Castle, the majestic home of the Duke and Duchess of Roxburghe is a must, followed by afternoon tea at the newly-renovated Roxburghe Hotel.
The picturesque town of Melrose is 14 miles away with its pretty narrow streets offering some of the best shopping in the Borders and the graceful architecture of the abbey monastery ruins as the stunning backdrop. Stop off on route at Main Street Trading in St Boswells to visit the award-winning bookshop and deli, or alternatively for day trips slightly further afield, the stunning Northumberland coast is less than an hour's drive with miles of rocky coves, imposing castles, and pristine sandy beaches for walking, riding, kite-surfing and sandcastle-building. The Georgian splendour of Edinburgh is only 48 miles away and an easy day trip by car.

Garden and grounds
Crailing House is set within fabulous, mature parkland providing privacy as well as space for children to play. A terrace accessed from the hall leads to a lawned area with outside seating. There is ample parking at the front of the house.
A cottage in the grounds sleeping five guests can be booked in conjunction with the house subject to availability for an additional fee. Please contact us for further details.
Catering at Crailing House is entirely flexible. The house can be taken on a self-catered basis, or part or fully catered options can be arranged, including a homemade meal delivery service with wine from renowned merchants Corney & Barrow.
Two hours of daily housekeeping is included in the rental price. The housekeeper is also available for additional cleaning or linen changes throughout guest's stay at additional cost.
A travel cot and high chair are available on request.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome at Crailing House with prior consent of the owner. Dogs must be kept to the butler's pantry in the basement level and guests must clear up after their pets.
