Outside the garden gets the sun all day and evening. After a day exploring, relax with a drink on the patio and watch the sun slowly set. Nearby is Kirkmichael with its superb gastro pub, village shop and cafe. Golfers are exceptionally well catered for with Turnberry and Royal Troon a short drive away; plus there are many excellent municipal courses in Girvan, Ayr, Maybole and Prestwick. There are some lovely walks around the cottage offering some great views and within the surrounding area there are many more. It also has a horse riding centre for lessons or treks through the beautiful estate.
Cultural highlights include Culzean Castle looking out over the Ayrshire coast to Arran, or Dumfries House with its priceless collection of Chippendale furniture, walled garden and woodland walks. There are numerous other castles in the region including Dundonald, Dean Castle and romantic ruins at Dunure. And of course there's Burns Birthplace Museum and Cottage in nearby Alloway. A great way to take in the glorious coastline is to take a trip in the world's only sea-going paddle steamer the Waverley; day trips to Arran, the Kyles of Bute and Mull of Kintyre start from Ayr and Girvan. Glasgow with its shopping, galleries and museums is only an hour away.
