Three miles north-west of Lochgilphead (shops, hotels, swimming-pool, golf), comfortable, double-glazed Creagen Cottage stands detached, in its own sizeable grass garden, by the towpath of the Crinan Canal.
Always comfortable, Creagen now has a superb new extension comprising a split level additional sitting and dining room with French doors and lots of windows, the better to admire the boats as they pass along the canal. The cosy original sitting room, with open fire, remains a snug retreat for cooler evenings.
There are beaches nearby, with the lovely Mull of Kintyre (boat-trips to Gigha, Jura and Islay from West Loch Tarbert) to the south. Oban (about 30m) offers boat trips to Mull, Iona, Staffa, etc. En route, visit Kilmartin Glen with its 4,000 year old archaeological remains. C airnbaan and Crinan have excellent hotel/restaurants.
