This enchanting, 275-year old historically listed stone cottage has a stunning situation on the shores of sea loch Crinan near Kilmartin/Lochgilphead in Argyll. Its interior is no less spectacular, combining the highest standards of comfort with loads of character – beams, exposed stone walls, oak floors, rustic open fireplace, lovely antique furniture. It stands in its own beautiful enclosed gardens (furniture, parking) with a little gate which leads right on to a sandy beach, where at low tide one can wander for miles enjoying the fantastic westerly views and breathtaking sunsets.
These peaceful surroundings make this the most relaxing place to unwind - yet there is no lack of things to do. The unspoilt marshland of Moine Mhor is home to a large variety of birds. Walkers can explore the hills of Argyll and Knapdale or cycle the Crinan Canal. This is a popular sailing area; canoes and kayaks may be launched from the slipway and fishing can also be organised locally. Lochgilphead (7m, all facilities) has a swimming pool and golf course.
Nearby are Kilmartin Glen, one of Scotland’s most important ancient sites, and the ancient iron age stronghold of Dunadd. Continue on up to Oban (37m) with ferries to Mull and Iona etc, while, in the area, ferries also run to Arran, Jura, Islay and Gigha. The NT gardens at Crarae are just 20 miles away.
