Crookston House is situated only 18 miles south of Edinburgh in the beautiful Scottish Borders. The owners ensure you a very warm welcome into their family home.
The House has two en-suite bedrooms (a double and twin) and one double bedroom with a private shower room, all on the first floor. All rooms are non-smoking and have TV and tea/coffee facilities. It is a great base from which to explore Edinburgh, the Scottish Borders and East Lothian.
Guests also have access to the Ante-room, perfect for relaxing in front of the open fire. There are beautiful gardens and grounds to enjoy a walk through and there is plenty of parking space at the property.
Crookston House sits on the borders of Midlothian, East Lothian and the Scottish Borders so is the perfect base in which to visit these areas. There is a train station at Gorebridge (approx. 6 miles) that has a half hourly service into Edinburgh Waverley Station. This enables Edinburgh to be explored without the stress of car parking.
The nearest village is Stow (approx. 4 miles) which has a post office and shop, a doctor’s surgery and the Cloudhouse Café. There is also a train station here with an hourly service to Edinburgh.
There are lots of lovely towns and villages to visit in the Scottish Borders as well as historic houses. The attractive towns of Melrose (19 miles) and Kelso (29 miles) are worth visiting and there are also a lot of interesting historic houses including Floors Castle, Abbotsford House, Thirlstane Castle, Mellerstain and Manderston to name a few.
There are also great places to eat out such as The Townhouse and Burt’s Hotel in Melrose, Firebrick in Lauder (11 miles), The Cross Keys in Ancrum and The Buccleuch in St Boswells.
East Lothian is renowned for its golf courses and wonderful beaches such as Seacliffe (39 miles) and Yellowcraigs (33 miles). It has a lovely coast line with lots of lovely towns and villages such as Gullane (29 miles) and North Berwick (34 miles) to explore. From North Berwick, there are boat trips out to the Bass Rock where you can watch the gannets and puffins, a word of warning, booking is essential.
Edinburgh (20 miles), Scotland’s capital city, has a huge amount to offer people whatever your interest. There are a wealth of places to visit, including Edinburgh Castle, Hollyrood Palace, a huge variety of museums and art galleries. It is worth wandering around and immersing yourself in the city. As for eating out, the options are endless, rather than listing them all here, it is best to discuss what you would like before sending you off into Edinburgh.
