Our aim is to make your experience here at Doune one you won't forget.
We all live and work here in Doune all year round, so making your holiday the best it can be isnt just a job, it’s our way of life.
Doune Bay Lodge is situated at the Southern end of the bay and looks west across the Sound of Sleat to the Skye Cuillins. Tucked just 20 metres back from it's own beach (sandy below mid-tide), and about 100 metres along a rough footpath from the award winning Doune Dining Room, it is a delightful and unusual building.
When staying at Doune Bay Lodge your food is taken in the Doune Dining room, which includes breakfast and a three course meal in the restaurant and a packed lunch for you to take with you during the day. All food is included in the weekly rate.
Doune bay lodge is informal accommodation, simple but with everything you need - think of it as a 'Wilderness Lodge'. Lined in pine throughout, the feel is warm and welcoming. There is accommodation for up to 12 guests in 4 single and 4 twin rooms, all with comfortable beds and excellent sea or hillside views. Downstairs the open plan living area, furnished with comfy sofas and chairs, provides plenty of space for relaxation, discussion or activities. Games and books.
The kitchen area has hot drink making facilities and a fridge. The shared utility area has 3 showers, 2 toilets, hand basins and drying facilities.
All water, space heating and cooking is by bottled gas. Electricity is provided by our own Solar and Hydro battery system and backed up by our generator. We aren’t on the grid. We try and get all the power we need from our renewables and the water you drink comes straight from the burn behind the lodge (filtered and tested)
Doune Bay Lodge rooms have power sockets available for computer/camera/battery charging, but as power is limited please do not bring high wattage appliances such as hair dryers.
Outside there is a full length veranda with a few steps down to the grassy foreshore above the beach. We have benches just above the beach and the bay is a safe place for swimming. (Weather permitting)
When staying at Doune Bay Lodge you can also charter our fast boat Mary Doune for access to the Knoydart Coastline and Small Isles. Skipper Andy has seemingly endless local knowledge and can help you get the best from the week. He is available every evening to discuss plans for the following day.
So whether you a large group of friends or families or just a couple who wants to have the lodge to yourself, Doune Bay Lodge can accommodate you.
We have had a few occasions when groups have taken over the whole of Doune and they have always been hugely successful events. Wedding parties, corporate training and groups of friends can have exclusive use of this amazing location and we can tailor the experience to fit the group.
