The small town of Wigtown, Scotland's National Book Town is a must for all bookworms, both young and old. To the east is the popular market town of Castle Douglas, with its vibrant high street of unique independent shops, cafes and restaurants, theatre and cinema, swimming pool and golf course. NTS Threave Estate is located on the edge of the town with Threave House & Gardens and Threave Castle all worth a visit. Also worthy of a visit are Logan Botanical Gardens with varied species and specimens supported due to the mild climate that the area has from the effect of the Atlantic Gulf Stream. For those who fancy sampling a local tipple there are several Gin & Whisky distilleries within easy reach and include Dark Sky Distillery in Kirkcudbright, Crafty Distillery at Newton Stewart and Bladnoch Distillery near Wigtown.
