Gairloch (shops, hotels, golf course), about 65 miles west of Inverness, is one of the jewels of the west coast of Scotland, with lovely beaches and superb mountain and coastal scenery. Flowerdale Cottage is quietly situated on the Gairloch Estate there, with a large walled grass garden behind, flanked by woodland and a waterfall (care with children!).
It is a most comfortable cottage, with loads of character and ideal for families, delightfully presented by the same family who have owned the Estate since 1494.
The Estate can offer many activities including fishing, stalking and pony trekking. Boat trips sail from the village, and, while the nearby mountains of Torridon just beg to be climbed, there are plenty of less challenging walks to be enjoyed.
To the north are the famous subtropical gardens at Inverewe.
