Ghillie’s Bothy is a detached, rural cottage set in a sunny enclosed courtyard in the Shinnel Glen, near Moniaive (2.5m, shop, pubs, restaurant) in Dumfries and Galloway.
This cosy cottage is the perfect romantic retreat with its multi-fuel stove and traditional Scottish ‘box bed’ set into the sitting room wall, a well-equipped kitchen and large walk-in shower. Outside is a pretty enclosed garden with a patio area.
The River Nith is known for its fishing and there are walking routes straight from the door. The National Cycle Network crosses the region and in the hills at Cairnhead are a series of sandstone sculptures, the ‘Striding Arches’. Thornhill (5.5m) has shops, supermarkets, a pub/restaurant and guided tours are available at Drumlanrig Castle (7m). Dumfries (20m) is accessible for a day trip.
