Accommodation: 2 bedrooms, 1 double, 1 twin (sleeps 4)
An absolutely lovely thatched self catering cottage with all the character and charm you could wish for as well as a stunning location in the beautiful and hidden Glen Lyon. It is difficult to overstate how pretty Strathtay and Glen Lyon are and this thatched cottage is one of a few such holiday cottages in the highland area of Perthshire- a rarity in Scotland. The beautiful village of Fortingall with the oldest Yew Tree and charming thatched houses is nearby and a visit to the hotel there is worth the effort.
Inside the holiday cottage is compact, but deceptively spacious, and has been lovingly modernised but retains much of its quirky original features such as tongue and groove cladding on walls, sweet windows set low into the thatch, and slate floors. There is fully modernised kitchen with a charming conservatory off it and access to the fully enclosed garden. The two public rooms allows younger member of the family to watch TV and play games whilst adults can enjoy the peace of the dining room.
This area has much to do with Lochs Tay and Tummel nearby, the river Tay for fishing, fantastic wildlife all around and extreme sports available locally. The attractive town of Aberfeldy has great shops and restaurants and is nearby. Kenmore is a lovely spot with good restaurants, the romantic Taymouth Castle with its golf course which is open to the public. There is also a Crannog in Loch Tay which is a fascinating place to visit and understand the history. Be sure to explore Glenlyon - it is a wonderful and little known area with fantastic scenery, wonderful wildlife and even the chance of seeing an eagle.
