Happy Trail Cottage is spacious enough for multiple generations to be content. This characterful cottage is steeped in history, with its story lovingly told through the various pictures and nods to the area you’ll find throughout. There are multiple stained glass panels throughout the ground floor - it is unique and a real gem!
Sit on the front porch, or in the small sun-trap seating area in front of the cottage with a good book, enjoy the stunning views of the canal and out to Loch Fyne beyond, and watch the boats travel up through the locks.
Benefitting from its own gardener, the cottage flower beds are always well-tended, and keep the cottage looking cheerful throughout the year!
Take a walk along the canal and look out for the local kingfishers - or watch the locks being opened and closed as the boats go through. Cycle the 9 miles along the towpath to Crinan itself, where you can enjoy coffee and a scone, or dinner.
If you’ve got a boat, you’re welcome to bring it - there is a launching slipway at the boat yard, along with various places to put kayaks in. Ardrishaig is ideally placed for exploring the local area with a boat - Loch Fyne is yards from the cottage, and Ardfern & Tayvallich are popular with visitors bringing boats too.
The cottage is on the edge of the town itself, so shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants are all within a few minutes walk. There is a museum at the canal basin, and several great walks in the area for those who love the outdoors.
WiFi is provided, as are bed linen and towels - everything you need for a comfortable stay.
Within the cottage itself, all accommodation with the exception of the double bedroom is on ground floor level.
The living room is very spacious with ample comfortable seating, and features an electric wood-burner style heater, desk for working at and smart TV with DVD player. From the living room, you head to the hallway, with the twin bedroom, bathroom, spiral staircase and kitchen off. The master suite is entered via a stable-style door with stained glass panel. Featuring a sitting area in the bay window, built in wardrobes and an ensuite shower room, it can be made up as a super king or a twin on request (please let us know when booking if you have a preference).
The kitchen is large and well equipped with everything you’ll need for your stay (including a washing machine and fridge/freezer). The dining area is in the heated conservatory next to the kitchen - a wonderfully light space with a Mediterranean feel to it, which also makes it perfect for board games or reading.
Heading up the spiral staircase, you’ll find a double bedroom which enjoys views out over the canal and Loch Fyne. It has a sink in the bedroom too.
There is parking in the driveway for up to 3 cars, and there is a lockable gate to the side of the property for storing bikes (complete with wall-mounted bike hangers).
Sitting in the heart of Argyll, the cottage provides an ideal base for those looking to explore the area - ferries to various islands are all within easy reach; there are a good number of attractions within the local area; and we are well situated for walking (with short walks on the doorstep, and various Munros within day trip distance - including Ben Arthur, Ben Cruachan & Stob Daimh, and Ben Lomond). Glencoe and the West Highland Way are also within day trip distance. Cyclists will enjoy the wealth of attractive routes, both on and off-road - there are various forestry tracks in the area, in addition to the towpath and various road options.
