Landmarks and sports: We are near McCaig’s Tower – one of Oban’s famous landmarks. It’s well worth a visit with its amazing panoramic views of the town. Hawthornbank is opposite the town’s bowling green and is 2 minutes walk from Atlantis Leisure Centre where there is a pool, racket sports and a gym.
Outdoor activities: The town is popular with cyclists, sea kayakers, walkers and wildlife enthusiasts.
Transport: The ferry terminal and train station are roughly a 10 minute walk. We offer ample car parking for guests coming on 4 wheels or motorbike. Cyclists are welcome and we have space to store bikes.
Views: There are lovely sea views out to Oban Bay, the Island of Kerrera and Isle of Mull and beyond from some of the rooms. Other rooms have very pleasant and open outlooks across to the bowling green.

A seating area is provided in every room with a hospitality tray for tea, coffee and biscuits. Also provided is a range of toiletries, bottled water and a few sweeties. About Oban: Oban has been described as the “seafood capital of Scotland” with many great restaurants, most of which have tasty fresh seafood on their menu. It is also known as the “Gateway to the Isles” and is a stop-over for visitors to the islands such as the Islands of Mull, Colonsay and Tiree.
To do: There are day trips to the islands from Oban throughout the summer to Mull, Iona and Staffa. This is a very popular day out and very well organised by the local tour operators. Staffa is well known for its population of puffins who are usually there for a good part of the summer. There are also shorter trips which leave from the esplanade and take day trippers to see the local wildlife and the seals.
A trip to the south of the town is definitely recommended. The scenery is amazing and there are many small villages to visit including Easdale with its museum, tea room and exciting boat trips.
So, if a visit to Oban is part of your holiday plans, we would be delighted to welcome you into their home. Whether it is a one-night stay as you pass through, or if it is a longer visit so you can enjoy the town and its surroundings, Hawthornbank is an excellent base with a convenient location and the comforts of home.
