Hebrides House, overlooking Uig Sands on the Isle of Lewis, is a luxurious self-catering home for up to 10 guests to experience nature at its best and then retreat indoors to relax in beautiful, comfortable interiors. Dogs are welcome too.
Designed by award-winning architects GRAS, Hebrides House is made up of two sections – the main house and then the annexe. Altogether, it has four king-sized bedrooms, a single cabin bed plus trundle for two kids, four bathrooms, two open plan living spaces and two kitchens, an outdoor shower and bathtub, three patio areas, a garage and ample off-road parking.
The property is for those whose ideal day is one spent up a hill or out in the sea, and want to come back home, get the salt and sand off in the outdoor shower and then relax in front of the fire. Or perhaps take a gin and tonic to the outdoor bath to watch the sunset and the stars come out.
The house’s two living spaces have been designed to showcase the views: large triple glazed windows ensure the best vantage point for Uig Sands, the hills down towards Harris, and the weather as it changes throughout the day. In the main house living area, there are two huge sofas and a Charnwood stove, plus a dining table that extends to seat 10 comfortably. The house has Starlink internet access throughout, a Sonos audio system plus an LG smart TV including subscription services such as Netflix, Apple TV+, Disney+. The main kitchen is fully kitted out for those that love to cook, with granite worktops, a Bora induction hob, Miele fridge freezer and oven, and a Quooker tap. The annexe has its own living area with double-height ceilings, sliding doors onto the patio, plus comfortable couches, a Charnwood stove, a Sonos system as well as a dining table for two. The kitchen includes Miele appliances, an undercounted fridge with ice box, plus a washing machine/dryer.
In the main house, there are two upstairs king-sized bedrooms, a cosy single cabin bed with a trundle underneath designed specifically for kids, plus two marble-tiled bathrooms both with bathtubs overlooking the beach and hills. The master bedroom has a bespoke glass window that runs down the wall and into the ceiling so you can watch the sky and scenery from the Soho Home bed. And when it’s time to sleep, there is a motorised curtain controlled from a button next to the bed. Downstairs in the main house is an accessible king-sized bedroom with views across Uig Sands and the hills, plus an accessible shower room finished in Bert & May tiles.
In the annexe, as well as the living space and kitchen, there is a marble-tiled bathroom with a bathtub perfectly placed to look over the beach. Upstairs, there is the sleeping space, which includes a king-sized built-in cabin bed (accessible only from one side). At the end of the bed, there are doors which conceal a smart TV with subscription services like Netflix, Disney+ and Apple TV+.
Outside, the three patio areas are positioned to get the best of the views and the sun as it moves throughout the day. There is a bench at the back of the house for an early morning cup of tea as the sun rises, and at the front there are two patios with vintage French marble tables for outdoor dining overlooking the bay, as well as a moveable firepit. There is an outdoor shower to get the sand off you when you come back from the beach, as well as an outdoor bathtub to watch the sunset. The house also has an outdoor sink where you can deal with any catch of the day you’ve landed.
There is a logpile for the stoves, plus space for several cars to park. The driveway is finished with tarmac (so perfect for skating), and there is a cattle grid at the entrance from the road. The whole property is fenced, and therefore safe for dogs (although it is in the middle of a croft, so there are sheep and horses around). The house also has a garage, within which you’ll find hanging space for wetsuits and storage space for boards, plus a washing machine and dryer.
In the summer season, the house is available to book in its entirety, so the annexe becomes a bedroom that happens to have its own lounge, kitchen and bathroom.
However, in the winter months, smaller groups can book just the main house or the annexe on its own, ideal for couples looking for somewhere beautiful and secluded.
Hebrides House is in the village of Timsgearraidh overlooking Uig Sands, named by Conde Nast Traveller as one of the top 34 beaches in the world in 2024. Beyond the beach are the hills of Uig looking down to Harris, which are paradise for hikers and climbers.
Hebrides House has it all: the comforts of home (and perhaps a few more besides) for family and friends to come together and enjoy each other’s company, but also spacious enough for people to have some time to themselves. It is set in one of the most ruggedly beautiful locations in the world, all within walking distance to the beach, Uig Sands restaurant, the well-stocked Uig community shop, and the café and museum.
