Herston Hall has a magical position on Widewall Bay on South Ronaldsay, Orkney, near the pretty village of St Margaret’s Hope (shops, hotel, ferry terminal). South Ronaldsay is linked to mainland Orkney by the Churchill Barriers, so the capital, Kirkwall (all facilities) is just half an hour up the road.
The Hall is no less captivating than its situation. Once a mission hall, it retains all its original external features, while the interior has been converted into the most delightful little holiday home imaginable, which combines unforgettable character with throroughly modern comfort.
Orkney’s excellent road connections mean you need not miss any of the islands’ many attractions. The Tomb of the Eagles and the Italian Chapel are very close by, while the World Heritage site at Skara Brae can be reached in less than an hour. Both the Hall and the islands cannot fail to delight. Come, and be entranced.
