Tucked away in a secluded position, yet it is within easy reach of the 'Artist Town' of Kirkcudbright, with a number of interesting galleries, Broughton House and Garden (National Trust for Scotland) and a busy working harbour and marina. The main shopping centre of Castle Douglas is only ten minutes away by car.
The garden is a haven for wildlife. There are a choice of sandy beaches and coves close by. A 2 minute drive away is the Cocoa Bean Factory a must for those with children, offering indoor and outdoor play, a coffee shop and chocolate workshops. Slightly further afield (approximately 10 minutes by car) is the award winning Cream O'Galloway with an outdoor adventure playground for children & adults of all ages, indoor play for younger children, coffee shop , nature trails, farm tours, ice cream making experiences and ultimately to round off your visit their very own Cream O'Galloway ice cream made with organic milk from the farm. For the more adventurous, Laggan Outdoor offer activities for older children and adults, including one of Europe's longest Zip Wires. The area offers wonderful opportunities for sporting and outdoor pursuits. Fishing which is readily available throughout the area, be it Sea, River or Loch. Golf with 18 hole courses at Kirkcudbright, Castle Douglas and Brighouse Bay, numerous others are within a reasonable drive. There are plethora's of walking opportunities including beach, cliff top, and forest and for those who seek something more strenuous, hill walks. Kirroughtree, part of the Galloway Forest Park (one of Britain's first designated Dark Skies Parks) offers a stage of the 7stanes Mountain Bike trail, with others a little further afield at Dalbeattie, Mabie & Ae Forests.
