If you enjoy attention to detail, coupled with warm hospitality and delicious Scottish breakfasts, then Kinnaber is a must. Both our rooms are ensuite and you can enjoy our garden and summerhouse. Visit as a guest and leave as a friend.
Kinnaber is a detached house built in 1923 in the beautiful village of Edzell. It offers splendid comfortable accommodation for guests with its 2 twin bedded rooms – the Green and the Blue Rooms. Both rooms are en suite, the Green having a spa bath.
Guests are welcome to use the garden and summerhouse.
Although we do not offer evening meals there are several eating establishments in Edzell and the Edzell area.
Edzell is ideally located for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits – walking, cycling, fishing and golf.
Montrose and the the North Sea coast is about 12 miles away and so Edzell is also ideal for excursions to the numerous coastal fishing villages such as Johnshaven, Gourdon, and Inverbervie.
If you prefer inland scenery then Kinnaber is well situated for the Angus Glens – Glen Esk, Glen Lethnot, Glen Clova, Glen Isla and Glen Prosen – the nearest being Glen Esk.
For those who are historically minded there are several interesting places to view.
On entering Edzell from the south the road passes under a beautiful stone memorial arch, which was erected in 1888 by the village in Memory of the 13th Earl of Dalhousie and his Countess who died within 24 hours of each other.
Another Memorial in Edzell is the Inglis Memorial Hall and library. Opened in 1898 it was commissioned by Colonel Robert Inglis in Memory of his father who was Parish Minister at Loch Lee before moving to Edzell in 1841to continue as Minister of Edzell Free Church. The Hall has remarkable stain glass windows and the Library is considered to be one of the best preserved examples of a late 19th Century public library surviving anywhere in the UK.
Often overlooked by toursists, 2 miles outside Edzell, is Edzell Castle. Now cared for by Historic Scotland, the present castle dates back to the16th Century. The walled garden is the castle’s main attraction, created by Sir David Lindsay around 1604. It is an Italian Renaissance Garden in rural Angus.
To the north of Edzell there are numerous castles to be visited, such as Dunnotar, Crathes Craigievar Kildrummy and of course the Royal Residence of Balmora.l
