Otter and Hare are our largest cottages in the Stables Courtyard, and they are full of character. Sleeping 5 to 6 guests in 3 bedrooms, these two cottages are ideal for larger families, wedding parties, groups or fishermen wanting separate rooms.
Otter Cottage is topsy turvy in that the kitchen/living area is upstairs and 2 of the bedrooms are downstairs which means you get great views from your sofa. Upstairs is a huge open-plan living area with a dining table and the kitchen at the far end of the room. There is an electric fire in the living area. There is a twin bedroom at the other end of the upstairs with a hand basin. Downstairs you’ll find another twin bedroom and a double with an ensuite shower, hand basin and wc. The family bathroom is next to the twin bedroom and has a bath with shower over, WC and basin. Otter Cottage sleeps up to 6.
Hare Cottage can suit guests who may struggle with stairs as the living room/kitchen, shower room and double bedroom are downstairs. Upstairs there is a single bedroom and a comfortable twin bedroom with an ensuite with bath, hand basin and wc. Hare Cottage sleeps up to 5.
Both cottages have fully equipped kitchens with electric cookers, microwaves fridge freezer, kitchenware and dishwashers. There are CD & DVD players and televisions, books and magazines. The heating is by electric heaters and immersion heaters for the water. Both offer a comfortable and welcoming accommodation and have been graded as 3 star by Visit Scotland. Free Wi Fi is available for all guests. . Bedrooms are fully made up with linen, and towels available on request. A shared laundry room is equipped with washing machine, tumble dryer, chest freezer and secure storage space, and a large games room is open to all guests for a game of table tennis, darts or snooker.
Enjoy a 'farm life experience' and visit the local animals, wander amongst the rolling hills and enjoy salmon and trout fishing on the loch or river. Many guests don't even leave Kirkwood as there is so much to do on the estate; whether you are interested in country sports or quad biking, wildlife watching or spa treatments. Situated 5 miles from Lockerbie and the thriving market town of Annan, there is plenty of local history, shops, pubs and restaurants to discover. Dumfries is also only 10 miles away where there is a wealth of attractions to explore, including a number of properties connected to Robert Burns, where you can learn more of the bard's extensive links with the region. Ideal for wedding parties as we are so close to Gretna and Comlongon Castle and can sleep up to 32 people in all the cottages and 42 if you include the Farmhouse.
Kirkwood Cottages can usually be booked from Sunday or (Thursday for short breaks).
