The B&B is run by Sarah and David Bowen, and it is also their home. It is set back from the road, which is a no-through road, only leading to the hotel and slipway, and is therefore in a tranquil setting. Due to our isolated location, a car is essential unless you are on a cycling or walking trip.
We are 250 miles north west of Glasgow (5 hours’ drive); 236 miles north west of Edinburgh (also 5 hours’ drive), 143 miles north of Fort William (3.5 hours); 111 miles north west of Fort Augustus (2.5 hours); 166 miles north of Isle of Skye (4 hours) and 90 miles north west of Inverness (just under 2 hours).
The area is popular for walking, fishing, bird watching, mountain climbing, and boat trips which run daily (weather permitting) from the slipway by the Kylesku Hotel. There are also boat trips from the pretty fishing village of Lochinver, and out to the RSPB reserve on Handa Island and further trips at Durness (35 miles north) which take in the Smoo Caves. There are a variety of beautiful sandy white beaches worth a visit, including Achmelvich Bay, Balnakiel (at Durness), Oldshoremore and Sandwood Bay. Durness also boasts a challenging 9-hole golf course with stunning views as does Ullapool. For walkers, there are a number of gentle walks on undulating terrain and there are both Corbetts and Munros to bag, such as Quineag, Arkle, Foinaven, Suilven, Stac Pollaidh, Canisp and Cul Mor. For the less energetic there are a number of wonderful day trips you can enjoy by car, often with a tea shop or craft shop to take in on the way.
