"Three tired urban souls were restored by the cosy comfort of Letter Steading and the pure sensory beauty of this spectacular location. Many thanks."
"A lovely week. Great weather! Enjoyed wonderful walks up Ben A'an and Ben Venue. Also recommend walking down to the boathouse. Boys loved the area around the cottage - making dens, sitting round the outdoor fire, just being by the Loch!! A wonderful location and great hosts. Thanks very much!"
"This is one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in.The location is superb - very peaceful with great views. The accommodation is first class - the standard of decor, equipment and cleanliness is very high. Jan and Gordon are great hosts - nothing is too much trouble. We loved the 'wendy house' with the chimenea - spent most evenings there! A great location for walkers, cyclists or kayakers particularly."
Situated on the private north shore road just over three miles from the Trossachs Pier where the SS Sir Walter Scott and Lady of the Lake sail regularly in the summer months to Stronachlacher, Letter Steading is an ideal base for enjoying all the local area has to offer, surrounded by wonderful countryside. There is fantastic walking, cycling, local history, hill climbing, riding - the opportunities are endless. A lot of our guests rebook with us for a fortnight as they don't manage to do and see all they want to in the first week with us! For those of you just wanting to get away from it all and relax this is an ideal spot to unwind in one of the most beautiful areas in Scotland. Rest in the very private area at the back of the cottage, light the barbeque maybe and enjoy the stunning views of the loch and beyond to Ben Lomond.
Letter Steading is a detached cottage all on one floor and has been sympathetically renovated to show off its thick walls and beautiful stonework. It has two bedrooms - one twin and one double, both carpeted and you will be provided with good quality bedlinen and towels which are included in the price. We offer a cot, highchair and baby bath for baby's needs. In the open plan kitchen/eating/sitting area there is a wood burning stove as well as electric wall mounted radiators, and it has an easy to keep clean oak floor. There is comfy seating and a large bean bag for the kids to take turns on! The kitchen area is well equipped with dishwasher, fridge, small freezer, electric oven and hob, and everything you might need for a self catering holiday home from home. Our shower-room has a large shower cubicle, heated towel rail and underfloor heating. It also has grab rails in the shower and near the toilet, with a pull down rail as well so is ideal for disabled guests; the doors are extra wide and there is easy access from the car to the front door of the cottage. We also offer a washing machine and drying area at the rear of the cottage, and an extra worktop-style freezer. There is a payphone in the cottage but please note, there is no mobile signal at the cottage. No WiFi in the cottage but if you're desperate you can usually access a 3G signal at the picnic point about a mile away!
Outside there is a private area to the rear of the cottage, with barbeque and comfortable seating. Although there are no loch views from the cottage itself, there are lovely views from the decking area where there is plenty of seating around a big teak table. Alternatively, seating is available at the front in the evening where you can take in the last rays of the sun, watching the birds feeding at the seed and nut feeders - all kinds of tits and finches, siskins, dunnocks, robins and a pair of lesser spotted woodpeckers. Or why not take advantage of the 'Wendy House' - you can light the chiminea on cooler nights and grill your steak over it. Maybe partake of a glass or two of your favourite tipple whilst drinking in the fantastic views of the sunset over the loch and Ben Lomond in the distance?
We welcome well behaved dogs, but please note that the garden is not fenced and we do have cats living within the vicinity!
Enjoy the spectacular scenery of the National Park - bring your own bikes or hire from the Trossachs Pier (available from Easter onwards to late autumn), take the boat up to Stronachlacher and cycle back on the private surfaced road. The Steading is in an idyllic situation from which to explore the myriad of cycle tracks and walking paths on the forest roads and trails. Loch Katrine boasts wonderful wildlife - birds of prey, deer on the high hills, pine marten, otters and red squirrels can occasionally be spotted. It is only a short stroll to the lochside beach and some of the most stunning views you could imagine.
