For an idyllic island escape, Liosbeag on Lewis must surely fit the bill. In the tiny hamlet of Bhaltos, 30 miles from Stornoway (all facilities, golf course, leisure centre) it is just a few yards from one of the legendary Hebridean silver sand beaches, with stunning sea views from the large windows and its decked veranda (furniture).
The interior is as comfortable as the setting is spectacular, well furnished and equipped, with the green credentials of air source heating and a cosy wood burner.
Apart from its glorious beaches, Lewis is famed for its wildlife (golden eagles, deer, otters may all be seen) and such prehistoric remains as the Callanish Standing Stones and the Carloway Broch. Boats may be hired just three miles from the cottage, with loch and sea fishing also available locally.
There are eating places providing everything from coffee and home baking to delicious meals sourced from local ingredients and galleries and studios featuring works by the artists who flock to this unique landscape. Or you could buy some genuine Harris Tweed as a lasting memento of your visit!
