This stone cottage has a mix of original architectural features and new craft fittings – willow weavings, carved oak shelves, woollen rugs on wooden floors, and a bright, sunny aspect. Sleeping up to 5, but best for couples or foursomes who like space, there are 3 public rooms (a sun room, a living room, and a big living-kitchen with a wood stove) and two bedrooms (one double bed with an en-suite, and one twin room with an en-suite dressing room with a small sofabed). The sun room also has a sofa bed – so you can wake up and step through the french-windows into the countryside.
There is good insulation, double glazing and heating, so you can make Longshot as cosy or cool as you want. Beds are sturdy, seats are comfy, the lighting is good, and there are many nearby walks. For home cooks, there is good quality kitchen equipment, a walk-in pantry, and herbs at the back door (sage, rosemary, thyme, mint…. though the rabbits keep eating the parsley!
Outside, there’s a shed (2 bikes and a barbecue), wooden garden furniture, and a tree hung with bird feeders, so you can watch the woodpeckers and red squirrels. The views are tremendous – all the way across the glen to the Galloway Hills, with wonderful sunsets and long starry nights (deep in the Dark Skies Park).
