Situated in the heart of East Lothian, stands this outstanding five star graded fortified tower, which was restored in 2002. Set within 22 acres of grounds it is surrounded by rolling countryside and some of the finest golf courses in Scotland. The castle is predominantly let on a serviced basis, which would apply to all wedding bookings, but is offered here on a luxury self-catering basis.
If you are travelling from Edinburgh, a mere 24 miles away, you are sure to get a warm welcome on arrival with a roaring fire on in the Great Hall, under-floor heating, and the heat being retained by the four foot thick walls. At ground level is the vaulted dining room, with long table to seat all your guests, served by the well equipped vaulted kitchen next door. To the side is a spacious boot room, which is ideal for storage of golf clubs and any bulky items that you wish to bring into the castle. There is also a private office, which is for the manager of the castle, who comes in on a daily basis and his knowledge, local or otherwise, is available to the group if required. On the floor above is the Great Hall, which is the main reception room in the castle, and is set-up as a fine drawing room with large open fire. A smaller sitting room is next door, which is the library. The accommodation is situated between the first and fourth floors, all accessed via steep spiral stairs. The Carmichael and Ruthven suites have super king size beds, whilst the Stewart, Erskine and Garret suites can be super king size doubles or twin bedded rooms – all with their own TV. There is also a twin room and a single room available. The castle is beautifully furnished from top to bottom, with top-end sofas, luxurious beds, delightful décor - as well as a suit of armour. For those who wish to bring in a caterer or cook, then the manager has a list of excellent local choices who know the castle well. This is the ideal venue for a family holiday, golfing break or just to gather a group of friends in a stunning castle environment with an emphasis on quality.
WHAT TO DO IN THE AREAWhilst East Lothian in recent years takes pride in being known as the "Fair Trade County", for most visitors the county is best known for its links golf courses and having easy access to the city of Edinburgh. There are 22 courses to choose from with the likes of Dunbar, North Berwick, Musselburgh, Gullane and the Open championship course of Muirfield. The centre of Edinburgh is only 24 miles, with the attraction of shopping, culture, heritage and of course, Edinburgh Castle. Families can be entertained at Edinburgh zoo or one the local beaches at North Berwick. The nearest distillery is Glenkinchie which can be found nearby at Pencaitland. For walkers there is the Southern Upland Way. Angling for salmon and other pastimes can be arranged by the manager on site with advance notice.
