A solitary country cottage set on a hillside a mile outside Archiestown, the highest village in Morayshire. Lynes Cottage is surrounded by a hundred acres of its own farmland and enjoys glorious sweeping views across to Ben Rinnes and down the Spey Valley towards the river Spey and the Cairngorm National Park. Behind the cottage a small wood of ancient Scots Pine trees leads into the vast Elchies forest where the quiet tracks provide miles of easy walking and cycling. This bright and cosy cottage has recently been refurbished and provides an ideal base for a tranquil, relaxing holiday from which to enjoy the scenery and wildlife or equally to take advantage of the many active pursuits on offer in this lovely area.
A cosy sitting room with its wood burning stove is ideal for relaxed sociable evenings and the bright, spacious well equipped kitchen/diner is perfect for informal dining or enjoying the views over a leisurely breakfast. Upstairs the two bedrooms are light and airy with fresh decor and a further single bedroom downstairs, together with family bathroom, shower room and utility room makes this country cottage ideal for guests to enjoy a perfect holiday. Outside, surrounded only by woods and farmland, the views are endless. Guests can walk along a woodland path to Archiestown, a mile away, where they can enjoy a delicious meal and a pint or two or set off on bike or foot to explore the miles of woodland tracks to be enjoyed from the door.
This picturesque area of Moray is ideally placed for guests to see the variety of scenery that Scotland has to offer, from the beaches of the Moray Coast to the mighty river Spey and on to the high tops of the Cairngorm mountains. The beautiful sandy beaches and the picturesque fishing villages of the Moray Firth, only a short car journey away, offer opportunities to sail, windsurf, dolphin spot and take walks along sandy dunes or in pretty harbour towns. Heading inland are the mountains and moorland of the Cairngorm National Park with over 30 Munros to challenge the hill walker. The ski slopes of Aviemore (45 minute drive) and the Lecht (30 minute drive) offer between them over 50 km of exciting skiing in breathtaking surroundings.
In addition to the extensive forest walks and mountain bike tracks behind Lynes Cottage, the Speyside Way is close at hand and offers 65 miles of stunning scenery to walk through. Golfers will love the many excellent courses in the area including Ballindalloch, Elgin, Grantown on Spey and Speybay, whilst other guests may prefer the Malt Whisky Trail with the world famous Macallan and Cardhu Distilleries less than 5 miles from the house and just two of many in the Spey Valley which is renowned for its whisky making.
For those who enjoy Scottish history, a trip to Cawder Castle, romantically linked with Shakespeare’s Macbeth, or the National Trust of Scotland’s Brodie Castle is a must and locally there is Ballindalloch Castle, a magnificent 16th century castle. The historic Knockando Woolmill provides a chance to see one of a few surviving small scale woollen mills in the world.
The cottage is minutes from the River Spey, one of the best salmon and sea trout rivers in Scotland, and shooting and stalking can also be arranged locally.
