Location
Cambusbarron is a small, interesting village that sits in the shadow of the historic Gillies Hill with views to the north of the Trossachs hills beyond Callander. Cambusbarron and the nearby Gillies Hill are steeped in some of Scotland’s most colourful history. Ghillies Hill played a pivotal role in the Battle of Bannockburn: it is the hill from which Robert the Bruce’s camp followers, or Gillies, descended onto the field of the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 turning the tide of the battle which granted Scotland nearly 400 years of independence. There are also two Iron Age Forts on the hill which date back over 2000 years: Wallstane Dun and Gillies Hill Fort which date back over 2000 years.
Perfectly located for hill walkers, this property is only a 30-minute drive from the heart of the hill walkers’ paradise of the Trossachs.
Despite its small size, the village has a small cafe and pub, The Foresters Arms, both of which serve delicious food. The Cambusbarron Village Store and The Brae Co-op will keep you stocked up on last-minute bottles of wine and food during your stay. Why not try out the exceptional Scottish artisan butcher in the village which rightly claims to produce a very fine steak pie!
Time for adventures beyond Mhuilinn Apartment and Cambusbarron? You have plenty of choices. There are loads of family-friendly places to visit nearby: Briarlands Farm, Blairdrummond Safari Park, The Alpaca Trekking Centre, Flanders Moss National Nature Reserve, Argaty Red Kite Centre, Rednock Trekking Centre, Lake of Menteith boat trip to Inchmahome Priory to name but a few.
The historic City of Stirling is only a 5-minute drive by car. Here you will find, sitting atop a craggy, volcanic rock, the historic Castle with the Old Town Jail and Church of the Holy Rude slightly further down the hill. Slightly further away in Causewayhead on the top of Abbey Craig outcrop is the National Wallace Monument. The historic Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297, the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 and the Battle of Sherriffmuir in 1715 all helped to shape the history of Scotland and these sites can easily be visited from Mhuilinn Apartment. Allow yourself to become absorbed by the atmosphere, whilst visiting the magnificent Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument and The Battle of Bannockburn Experience, and then recharge your batteries in one of the many cafés, restaurants or pubs.
The nearby town of Falkirk is home to the world’s only fully rotating boat lift, connecting the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal, and also is home to The Kelpies at Helix Park – the largest Equine statues in the world!
Within a short driving distance, you will also be able to sample Scotland’s magnificent Highland scenery and hospitality before returning home to the comfort of your accommodation.
The surrounding countryside is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts: walking, cycling and paragliding are all on offer on Gillies Hill and the nearby Ochil Hills. Slightly further away are The Trossachs, Callander, Loch Lomond National Park, Glasgow and Edinburgh providing, therefore, the ideal central touring base for your holiday. Located within an hour’s drive of Glasgow and Edinburgh International Airports, Stirling has excellent motorway connections to the north and south. Golf being available at every turn: Kings Park Golf Club is only a 5 min drive from the apartment and at least another five within 30 minutes’ drive. Slightly further afield are the world-famous Gleneagles and St Andrew’s Old Course.
Mhuilinn Apartment is ideally located for you to make the most of your holiday and sample some of the highlights the area has to offer.
