We are Alistair and Janet Borthwick, owners of Mid Wellwood Farm and Bothy. Recently, we have renovated the bothy partly funded by The European Agricultural Development Fund for Rural Development. For the past 30 years, the original Bothy on our family farm was used for storing animal feeding and machinery. After a little imagination, the project to convert our Bothy into a holiday cottage began. Construction began in early March 2020.
Your farm stay sleeps 4 people and is suitable for children and pets. There is direct access to countryside walks and opportunities to see the farm animals up close. Our bothy has a sustainable wood burning hot tub to relax in the countryside and all heating on the premises is derived from a biomass boiler. We have a stand out wood burning stove in the open plan dining/ living area, a generous bathroom, spacious porch and two beautiful bedrooms - one king size bed and one twin room
Mid Wellwood Farm is an upland sheep farm located near Muirkirk in East Ayrshire. We have blackface ewes which are crossed with the blue-faced leicester to produce Scotch Mule lambs. We are heavily involved in conservation schemes, encouraging the breeding of upland birds such as Hen Harriers, Owls, Merlin, Peregrine and Golden Plower. We have paths on the farm which lead directly to the River Ayr, providing an excellent escape to nature.
