In a majestic position just a stones’ throw from the sea, and with commanding views across the Kilbrannan Sound towards the Kintyre Peninsula, Oakdene is a wonderfully welcoming family house in an enviable location which enjoys the peace and tranquility of a charming village, yet is just a short drive from Blackwaterfoot and Lochranza.
Fully modernised throughout but retaining many original features including a ship’s range, this house offers very spacious and comfortable accommodation for seven people including a separate snug, an ideal area for children. With a very sunny aspect and many of the rooms benefitting from glorious views towards the sea, it would make an ideal base for families, walkers and cyclists alike.
The beach lies just a stone's throw from the house, and visitors can look forward to the prospect of an evening stroll along the beach front complete with a spectacular sunset, or indeed a relaxing dinner in the garden with views out to sea. However, for those who prefer to dine out there are numerous excellent restaurants nearby. The closest is in Pirnmill but there are many more to choose from in Blackwaterfoot and Lochranza.
The house itself offers an ideal location to make the best of the island, particularly the mountainous region in the north, as well as access to beautiful sandy beaches on the north west coast and the golf course in Lochranza. The ferry from Lochranza takes less than 30 minutes and runs regularly to Claonaig in the summer season and Tarbert in the off season. From there, the Kintyre peninsula can be explored.
For those interested in historical sites, the King's Caves in local Blackwaterfoot are a series of natural sandstone caves with fragile ancient carvings on the walls. In addition, the Neolithic and Bronze age site of the Machrie Standing Stones is just a short drive from the cottage.
For whisky lovers, the famous Isle of Arran Distillery is less than 10 minutes by car. It offers tours and tastings and has an excellent restaurant and visitor centre.
