We are set in the peaceful countryside location of our old family-run farm, just on the edge of the village of Chirnside. This beautiful setting provides views over to the Cheviot Hills, where you can unwind and enjoy your holiday. The cottages are presented to a high standard, providing a comfortable and relaxing retreat.
Activities and Attractions
The area has plenty to offer, including great local food and produce, restaurants, cafes, galleries, charming coastal towns and countryside villages. The picturesque Berwickshire coastline is just a fifteen minute drive, where you can enjoy secluded beaches, charming harbours and plenty of stunning walks. Holy Island is also a short drive away, where you can spend hours exploring, just remember to check the tide as this is a tidal island and you don't want to get caught out!
Due to its geographical location, this area has plenty of history to explore. From the border town of Berwick-Upon-Tweed, where you can walk around the Elizabethan Walls, to the Border Abbeys and many castles, including Alnwick, of Harry Potter fame, Hume, and Floors Castle. Local historic houses include Paxton House and Manderston.
The Borders are home to many events, two highlights locally being the Jim Clark rally and the Common Ridings. Held annually in May, the Jim Clark rally, the only UK mainland closed road rally, runs over three days. Jim Clark was raised on the neighbouring farm to ours, he is buried in Chirnside churchyard and in the local town of Duns, you can visit the museum dedicated to his achievements as world motor racing champion, where many of his trophies are displayed. The Common Ridings are one of the oldest equestrian festivals in the world, reflecting back to the 13th and 14th centuries, when the Borderland rang out to the sound of fierce disputes and battles. The ridings run from May to July and many participants still ride out on horseback to patrol their historic march boundaries.
If it's outdoor adventure you seek, there's an abundance around here to keep you busy. Beautiful walking can be had along the Berwickshire coastline (via the Berwickshire coastal path) and around surrounding countryside (Sir Walter Scott Way). Great mountain biking at Glentress Forest and Innerliethen, Fishing on the river Tweed (the famous Salmon River), learning to surf at Coldingham Bay as well as horse riding, cycling, sailing and golf. Being close to the River Tweed, this is a great base for fishing parties, we can help you organise your fishing trips if required.
