From the open plan living, dining and kitchen area a sliding patio door opens onto your private balcony with garden furniture (BBQ is available to hire £25 per stay) With an unrestricted view to the summit of Ben More and the cascading Ben More burn less than 30 metres from the private balcony, Otter is one of our most secluded chalets. It is often commented by guests that Otter is a very peaceful and relaxing property. It is not uncommon to see nobody apart from me occasionally walking up to check upon the private water supply on Ben More burn that supplies Portnellan. Otter’s situation is also known for the abundance of bird life and animals including red squirrel, deer and Pinemarten.
The Portnellan Estate has been privately owned by the same family for nearly 40 years and offers fantastic facilities including fresh run wild salmon and trout fishing on the estate lochs and river, mountain bikes with plenty of trails on and off road for all abilities, a games room with table tennis, table football, pool table and a small gym. Canadian canoes, kayaks and rowing boats are free to use on the river and loch. Clay pigeon shooting can also be arranged. There is even an onsite visitor centre with a small essentials shop, fresh organic meat from a farm locally for sale (perfect for a BBQ or home cooking), homemade meals by Lucy (should you not fancy cooking of an evening), local information, a varied selection of board games and DVDs. We can even offer fresh eggs most mornings from the ducks on the pond and the chickens that roam freely.
Situated in the heart of the central Highlands of Scotland with spectacular loch, glen and mountain views all around Otter's setting is magnificent where a true highland landscape awaits you and it is often complimented on the abundance of bird and wild life that can be regularly seen.
