Spectacular panoramic views of the Cheviot Hills from the cottage provide the backdrop to this unspoilt area of the south of Scotland. The cottage is 3 miles from Jedburgh which has excellent shops, pubs and restaurants. Jedburgh Abbey is one of the most spectacular of the Border Abbeys and well worth a visit. Also 'a must' is a visit to Mary Queen of Scots House and the Castle Jail.
There is no need for wild life parks in the area. At Overwells roe deer are regularly seen, also badgers and foxes. Goshawks and buzzards live and breed in the valley and there is a resident barn owl as well as Tawnys. Oyster catchers and Golden Plovers are often seen as well as wild ducks, pheasants, partridge, hares and rabbits. House Martins visit Millhouse every year and are probably our most frequent repeat visitors
For those wanting to explore the Borders on foot or cycle, Millhouse is within easy distance of St Cuthbert's Way, the Four Abbeys Way and the Four Abbeys Cycle Way. The Cheviot Hills can be seen from the cottage where there are many walking routes including the Pennine Way.
The cottage is also close to Roxburghe golf course and Jedburgh golf course. There is salmon fishing on the Tweed and Teviot, horse racing at Kelso from September to May. All the Border towns hold festivals or Common Ridings in the summer months which are spectacular events based on years of tradition and are unique to the area.
Millhouse is a quality cottage sleeping 4 people.. It has been converted from the original mill house, to the highest standards, the ground floor having a kitchen/dining room, one twin-bedded room, one double-bedded room and a bathroom. Upstairs is a large living room with picture windows looking out across the countryside. There is full central heating. It is in an ideal situation for a holiday or short break at any time of the year A well behaved dog may be taken by arrangement as long as it is kept under close control on the farm.
Regrettably, no children under five years due to nearby water gardens.
