Those available in the area include plentiful golfing opportunities with the Southerness Links Championship course and many other 18 hole and 9 hole golf courses available nearby. The Forestry Commission 7Stanes Mountain Bike Trails are located throughout the region with the nearest being at Dalbeattie Forest about a 10 minute drive away and also in Dumfries at both Mabie & Ae Forests, a little further afield are the trails in the Galloway Forest Park (Britain's first designated Dark Sky Park). There are plethoras of walking opportunities including beach, cliff top, forest and for those who seek something more strenuous, hill walks. Course and sea fishing are readily available throughout the area. Horse Riding is available close by at Barend.
In autumn and winter large numbers of the Svalbard population of barnacle geese arrive at the nearby RSPB Mersehead reserve giving an unrivalled chance to see these amazing birds and other winter visitors.
The popular seaside village of Kippford is a 20 minute walk and is a renowned sailing venue and has two pubs both of which serve food. Other eateries can be found at Colvend (1 mile) or Haugh of Urr (15 minutes by car).
