Welcome to Rafters. A spacious and skilfully converted steading for just 2 persons in the picturesque coastal village of Auchencairn (a National Scenic Area in Dumfries & Galloway). A great location to explore this beautiful locality.
Rafters cottage is arranged over 2 floors. On the ground floor there is an entrance hall, a kitchen/diner, utility, split level lounge and WC.
The lower floor has a large bedroom suite with ensuite shower room and dressing room.
There is a fully enclosed private rear garden with lawn, raised deck and garden furniture.
Rafters is tucked away up a quiet lane just off Church Road in Auchencairn on the coast road (A711) from Dalbeattie to Kirkcudbright and is on the South West Coastal 300. The village is located off the Solway Firth coast at the head of the broad and sandy Auchencairn Bay whose entrance is guarded by Hestan Island. It’s a small, welcoming and pretty village with lots of whitewashed cottages many dating from the early 17th century. A few craft and specialist businesses operate here although it is predominantly a farming community.
Rafters offers you a comfortable location to kick back and relax and/or explore the surrounding area, it’s stunning scenery and coastline. There’s something for everyone eg beaches, walking, cycling, fishing, birdwatching, etc within close proximity of the cottage. There are numerous golf courses and a few of the 7 stanes championship mountain bike trails within a short drive away. Our Dark Skies are amazing.
The cottage is a few minutes walk from the centre of the village which has a well stocked village shop (with tea room & post office), a garage, a vegan restaurant, bowling green, village hall, primary school, church, & community garden. Further amenities, independent shops, art galleries, restaurants, coffee shops are available in the local towns of Kirkcudbright & Castle Douglas. Dumfries is a little further away.
It offers a fully equipped kitchen/diner with a microwave, electric range cooker, a dishwasher, a fridge and a freezer. A large dining table with bench and chairs sits centre stage. It is a light filled room with high ceiling and south facing french doors. The washing machine and clothes airer is in the adjoining utility room.
There is seating directly outside the front of the property. A sunny spot to enjoy drinks and nibbles with direct access to the kitchen.
The split level lounge has comfortable seating, footstools, Smart TV with CD/DVD, a selection of books/maps and a wood burner. The lower lounge area has a large ceiling feature window providing lots of natural light and is a great spot to sit and read.
A spacious high ceiling bedroom suite with an ensuite shower room and a dressing room. It has a 5’ king size bed, side tables, chest of drawers, a TV and wardrobes with ample storage and hanging space, shelves and full length mirrors. And a hairdryer.
NB An additional WC is provided in the inner entrance hall.
Hypoallergenic duvets and pillows are provided as well as linen & towels.
PLEASE NOTE:- The additional 2 bedrooms in the property are currently locked, unfurnished and unavailable for use.
Oil fired underfloor heating throughout which is thermostatically controlled. Wood burner in the lounge.

On site private parking is available directly outside the property for 2 cars.
