Almost at the south end of the Rhins of Galloway, the peninsula extending from the unspoilt south-west corner of Scotland into the Irish Sea, is the tiny harbour of Drummore (shop, bistro).
The Harbour Cottage here is a semi-detached, very comfortable and mirror-image cottages which stand just across the little lane from the foreshore, with stupendous views out across the water. With efficient electric heating and multi-fuel stoves in their cosy sitting rooms, they are snug and warm at all times of the year. To the back there is a large south-facing grass garden (furniture, barbecue) and each has its own patio for al fresco dining.
This is a paradise for walkers and ornithologists, there are quiet beaches on the west side of the Rhins and several well-known gardens nearby. A visit to the lighthouse at the very southernmost tip of Scotland is also a must.
