Built in Edwardian times as a home for the factor of the Dunskey estate and his family, our house has been carefully modernised to a high standard. The six stylish bedrooms are all en suite with either a walk-in shower or a bath/shower. The double rooms have comfortable king-size beds and several of the rooms offer stunning sea views. New for 2015 we have an outdoor hot tub!
The master bedroom was recently completely refurbished to create a unique suite featuring furniture crafted from reclaimed timber and works by contemporary Scottish artists. Choose to stay in it and you can enjoy not one sea view but two, enjoying views to the south and to the west - even the large en suite bathroom has a lovely outlook. The cosy seating area is the perfect place to relax and take in the scenery or watch TV or a DVD. A well stocked Fairtrade hospitality tray, TV and DVD player are also provided in each of the rooms.
For breakfast, delicious smoked salmon with scrambled eggs is always available as an alternative to the usual choice of hearty fried items. The traditionally prepared porridge is a firm favourite and you can choose from a wide range of cereals, juices and fruits for starters.
For a unique breakfast dish, why not try our "Kiwi Special" inspired by our visits to NewZealand?
Tasty home cooked evening meals are also available up to five days a week.
Our gardens or bright and airy conservatory are the perfect places to relax.
Portpatrick with its beautiful harbour, stunning cliff paths, independent stores and fantastic visitor attractions, is only a short walk away. The area is famed for its gardens, in particular the nearby glorious Logan Botanic Garden. The Mull of Galloway is only a short drive away and has an excellent visitor centre and exhibition at its lighthouse.
Portpatrick itself has several interesting and unusual gift shops including The Port Pantry which also has a coffee shop which, in our opinion, serves the best coffee for miles around. Other gift shops include the Lighthouse Pottery which is in the buildings of the old lighthouse and the Smuggler`s Cove which always has a large selection of items on display both inside and out!
Portpatrick also has a surprisingly large number of places to eat so that guests staying for a week can eat out each night in a different restaurant and still not have visited them all!
Here at Rickwood House, we are delighted to have been awarded a Vist Scotland "Taste our Best" Award for 2014-15
