A warm welcome awaits you at Sand o’Gill. The house overlooks Pierowall Bay and the harbour at Gill Pier where the ferry comes in from Papa Westray. Pierowall village and the shops are just a five minute stroll away.
Sand o’ Gill is a good starting point for walking round the island – or we have cycles for hire if you want to be a little more active
From the nearest information centre:- From Kirkwall T.I.C. go out on to Junction Road. At the roundabout turn right aand follow signs for North Isles Ferries. From Rapness follow road for Pierowall, continue through the village, Sand O Gill is at the junction at the end. From Stromness T.I.C. take the A965 to Kirkwall and follow signs for North Isles Ferries. At Rapness follow as above.
Getting there by railway:- Scotrail from all Scottish departures to either Thurso or Wick or Aberdeen.
Getting there by aeroplane:- British Airways (UK) either from Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Wick or Sumburgh (Shetland) to Kirkwall (Orkney). Loganair operate a daily service between Kirkwall and Westray. From Airport travel south to crossroads for old ferry terminal (Gill Pier). We are located on the crossroads before going into Pierowall village.
Getting there by ferry:- NorthLink Ferries from Aberdeen or Lerwick to Kirkwall. NorthLink Ferries from Scrabster to Stromness. Pentland Ferries from Gills Bay to St Margaret's Hope. John o' Groats ferries from John o' Groats to Burwick (May - September). Orkney Ferries for transport between Orkney mainland and Westray. From ferry port travel north through the island towards Pierowall village. Travel through the village and we are located just on the crossroads outside the village.
