Here you will find a warm, comfortable and welcoming centre for people from all walks of life interested in exploring, discovering, understanding and enjoying Unst and Shetland's magnificent wildlife, geology, archaeology, history and culture.
Saxa Vord is also a centre for people interested in active sports like walking, cycling and fishing, or for those who simply want to get away from it all and relax.
You have a range of accommodation to choose from: self catering holiday houses to study centre/bunkhouse, with a new hotel opening in 2009. Add to this the mouth-watering meals in our restaurant and the delicious bar meals in our lounge bar (washed down with Unst's own Valhalla beer), and you have all the ingredients necessary for a wonderful holiday.
During the day you can explore Unst's amazing landscape, either on your own or in the company of a guide, while in the evening you can enjoy live traditional music, talks and demonstrations.
Saxa Vord also boasts Foord's Chocolates where you can see handmade chocolates being made, and Unst's Valhalla Brewery plans to relocate to Saxa Vord this year.
THE NORDABRAKE SELF CATERING HOLIDAY HOUSES
Each of the 18 Nordabrake house has 3 bedrooms, a comfortable sitting room, a conservatory containing the dining table, and a fitted kitchen. The houses are semi-detached and set in a circle around a central lawn with children's play area. Each has a small private lawn to rear.
All houses are ideally suited to both couples and families with children and are the perfect homes to return to after a days exploration. Two or more can be rented together for larger parties.
As a self-contained island, Unst has all the essentials for modern living: three general stores, a post office, petrol pump and doctor.
Unst also boasts an excellent leisure centre, two superb heritage centres, ranger-guided walks, some craft shops and a variety of clubs that welcome visitors to their regular meetings.
